I started this process with a very quick sketch on my phone, this sketch defined that I wanted this skirt to have two things, princess seam slits, and be mini skirt length.
From there I went straight to patterning. Since this pattern was made to fit me I made sure to change my CLO avatar to have the same measurements as myself 5′ 7″, 25″ waist, and 36″ hips.
